How travel agent commissions work

Travel agents earn money 3 ways:

  1. Supplier commission — paid by the hotel/cruise/tour, invisible to the client (1-30%)
  2. Service fees — charged directly to the client for time spent (usually $25-150)
  3. Net rate markup — wholesaler gives you discounted rate, you mark up to retail

This calculator handles the first two. For a deeper dive read our commission structure guide.

FAQ — Commission Calculator

How accurate is this commission calculator?

The percentages reflect typical 2026 commission rates by category. Actual rates vary by specific supplier, host agency, and your annual volume tier. Always confirm with your host agency or supplier contract.

Does this include service fees?

Yes. Use the optional service fee field if you charge clients directly for time (typical for flight-only bookings or complex research that doesn't convert).

What host agency split should I use?

Entry-level agents typically start at 70/30 (you keep 70%). Mid-tier at 80/20. Premium plans 90/10. Direct (no host) is 100% but requires your own IATA/ARC bonds.
